Early 2000s, Calcutta, Jyotsna leaves her in-laws’ home with her husband Ashim and their two children, hoping for a fresh start. But when Ashim grows distant and takes the kids back, she’s forced to rediscover her independence, reclaim her children, and carve out a life that’s finally her own.
I was raised in a middle-class Bengali household in Kolkata, when the city was still called Calcutta, a reflection of our colonial past. Like the family in Kacha Kachi, we moved from one rented flat to another, which gave me the strange feeling of being a traveller in my own city.
